Why are Michel Torino wines so good?
Michel Torino (pronounced Me-shell Torino) first planted vines in the Cafayate Valley high up in the Argentine Andes in 1892. So they have a great deal of experience in getting the best from their terroir – which is certainly very unique terroir indeed. Their vineyards are situated at 1700 metres above sea level and experience extreme variation of temperature between hot days and cold nights. This extreme thermal amlplitude (up to 22 degrees celsius) provide ideal conditions for making wines with intense varietal characteristics.

It has been a hectic few months with all the developments and improvements since we launched Winesale.co.nz.

Since August, I have been working closely with some of the best wineries and winemakers in New Zealand to create two new wine ranges exclusive to Winesale.co.nz. The desire was to showcase each wine growing region with the grape varieties that grow best in the area.

Some of the wines we bought in an unfinished state in the tank and worked closely with the winemaker to get a wine which would meet our exacting standards. With others we requested the winery submit tank samples of the wine for evaluation. Our paramount criterion was the wine must be exceptional value for money. We sincerely believe the results justified the efforts and the finished wine is absolutely superb.

After all the e-mails, phone calls, tasting and traveling we are now ready to bring our efforts to you.

First up we have Kea Point. Kea Point represents our desire to contribute to the ecology of New Zealand by donating money from every bottle sold to the Threatened Species Trust. The Trust is a joint project between the Department of Conservation and the Royal Forest and Bird Society. The wine is named after the Kea Point landmark in the Mount Cook/Aoraki National Park. In this range we have a 2006 Central Otago pinot noir, a 2008 Central Otago Pinot Noir made at Gibbston Valley winery, a 2008 Central Otago Pinot Gris, also made by Gibbston Valley winery and a 2008 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

All though 20 cents of every bottle purchased is going to a good cause you don’t have to worry about the quality of the wine. We have priced these wines to absolutely over-deliver on value for money.

Our other label creation is Lammastide and we are also very excited about these wines. From the very beginning with Lammastide our intention was to seek out the most outstanding parcels of wine we could find. It was not important to us if the wine was not in huge supply; what was important to us was that the wine offered outstanding quality.

Without a shred of doubt the wines we have created under the Lammastide label are outstanding wines. The line up consists of a 2008 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, a 2008 Martinborough Pinot Gris and a 2007 Martinborough Pinot Noir.

I am confident when you try these wines you will acknowledge that these wines represent the finest value for money wines we have ever sold.
